General Impression

Created by the original makers of the full face snorkel mask, the Tribord Easybreath is one of the best full face snorkeling masks on the market. Rather than just fitting over your eyes and nose, it secures around the entire face, enabling you to breathe completely normally through your nose or mouth. Since the Tribord Easybreath full face snorkeling mask was released, numerous other brands have offered their take on the design. This mask is now an exceptionally sought-after piece of equipment for snorkelers all over the world.

While snorkeling comes easy for some, many people find it quite difficult during their first encounter. It is tough to adapt to breathing underwater through a narrow tube and can be uncomfortable when your snorkel regularly sucks in water instead of air. Furthermore, it can also be even more uncomfortable when water leaks into your mask, which you are constantly having to defog to restore your vision. These situations can quickly lead to users stressing or even becoming panicked in the water. This will not only lead to water enthusiasts giving up on snorkeling altogether but can also be dangerous.

It was in response to some of these snorkeling challenges that the Tribord Easybreath mask was developed. In doing so, it became the first full-face snorkeling mask on the market. Originally marketed as the Decathlon Easybreath by the French sporting goods retailer, Decathlon, this full face snorkeling mask has been rebranded as the Tribord Easybreath since.

This mask was created to offer a carefree snorkeling experience as it allows users to breathe and see just as easily as they would on land. This cool snorkel mask quickly became a bestseller and has since undergone several changes, upgrades, and simplifications leading us to the latest model: the Tribord Easybreath 2019. In addition to this, the Easybreath snorkel mask has inspired numerous other full-face snorkeling mask developers to create their features and designs similar to that of this fantastic mask.

In contrast to a traditional mask and snorkel set, the Tribord Easybreath full face is a one-piece mask. This makes it significantly easier to use for those just getting started in snorkeling. There are no difficulties in getting the snorkel to stay upright and in place. Additionally, there is substantially less risk of water entering your mask or your mask fogging up. The Tribord Easybreath full face snorkeling mask boasts anti-fog characteristics thanks to a separate chamber that’s isolated from the viewing pane. Your breath is directed up through the snorkel, rather than hovering in the mask and causing it to fog up.

In this guide, we’ll introduce some of the pros and cons of the Tribord Easybreath snorkeling mask and how it compares to other full face masks on the market.

PRODUCT OPTIONS

The Original Tribord Easybreath

The original Tribord Easybreath snorkeling mask was released prior to the company rebranding as SUBEA and offers many of the original features that users love. One of the main benefits of purchasing an original model is that it is available in four different sizes (compared to only two on the new version) so when you’re purchasing a full face snorkeling mask for a young child or have a particularly large head, then having the XS and L/XL options of the original design is optimal.

The New Version of the Tribord Easybreath

Almost every year, full face masks are released with design improvements and the Tribord Easybreath is no different. The latest version comes with a hypoallergenic silicone face skirt and is ideal for snorkelers with sensitive skin. It also boasts improved air valves to enhance air circulation.

In addition to this, the new version of this Tribord full face mask also comes with an improved secure lock snorkel that boasts a Dry Freak O-ring. The O-ring has a 6-year life cycle (although a spare ring is included in case the original gets lost or damaged) to ensure you get the longest service possible. Another nifty new design is that the snorkel piece is manufactured so that it will never accidentally release so you can snorkel with peace of mind.

However, one drawback of the new Easybreath snorkeling mask is that it is only available in two sizes – S/M and M/L as previously mentioned. This is unfortunate if you’re a Tribord Easybreath XS or XL user.

Tribord Easybreath Kids Full Face Snorkel Mask

While the XS size has been eliminated with the Tribord Easybreath 2019, the company has adapted a model that’s suitable for children aged 6 to 10 years. The Easybreath Junior sizing has been altered to suit the morphology of young kids’ faces. It also boasts a newly patented dry-top release system snorkel to ensure your child is always safe in the water.

If you’re after a Tribord mask for kids over 10 years of age, the S/M size should do the job.

What colors is the Tribord Easybreath full face snorkel mask available in?

The Tribord Easybreath full face snorkeling mask is available in four different colors – Orange, Blue, Pink, and Turquoise. Be aware that the Turquoise color is sometimes listed as “Atoll” or “Lagoon” on the seller’s websites.

Limited edition Tribord Easybreath Snorkeling Masks

Tribord snorkeling masks have also been released in a limited-edition range of designs. These five designs were inspired by the nature of light which bends and plays underwater reflecting the palettes of coral reefs and schools of fish. This leaves one almost camouflaged amidst the surrounding aquatic environment. These limited edition Tribord full face snorkel masks cost a little bit more than the standard colors. They are currently only available in S/M and M/L sizes (not XS, kids, or XL sizes).

How to pick the correct size full face mask – Tribord Easybreath sizing

The original Tribord Easybreath snorkel mask comes in four different sizes – XS, S/M, M/L and L/XL. To select the correct Tribord snorkel mask sizing for you, measure the length of your face from your eyes to the bottom of your chin. The XS (kids) size is designed for those whose measurements are less than 10 centimeters in length. The S/M is suitable for those who measure 10 to 12 centimeters in length while M/L will fit those with a 12 to 13-centimeter-long measurement. If you measure greater than 13 centimeters, you’ll need to purchase the XL size.

ACCESSORIES

The Scubamax 3mm neoprene snorkeling socks prevent chaffing around heels and ankles from fins and keep the feet warm by preventing heat loss. The socks also provide added grip on the sole to aid in avoiding nasty slips and falls.

The Rocontrip reflective inflatable vest can be purchased for added safety. It has a durable design with a sturdy inflation tube and high weight-bearing capacity. There are also sizes available for both adults and kids.

The U.S. Divers Proflex II Fins are soft full-foot pocket fins that are ideal for narrow feet. They sport a long blade size for ease of swimming and an easy-to-don slip-on design.

The GoPro HERO6 Black to capture all the underwater action in high definition. This cool camera securely fixes to your Tribord snorkel masks’ GoPro camera mount to help you produce high-quality images and video recording.

The Deepblu COSMIQ+ has three dive modes — scuba standard air, scuba nitrox, and freedive — as well as a bottom timer mode which a diver can adjust during a dive. Here are the specs for each, which the COSMIQ+ displays on a single bright screen for easy reading:

TECHNICAL EVALUATION

  • An isolated chamber prevents your breath from fogging up the viewing pane ensuring clear vision underwater.
  • The panoramic 180-degree field of vision allows you to see more underwater and monitor any dangers in your peripheral through the mask side view.
  • The dry top snorkel and float mechanism prevents water from entering the snorkel in choppy waters or if you dip below the water’s surface.
  • A bright orange, fluorescent tip makes you visible to boat drivers and other water users.
  • The elasticated textile strap is adjustable and won’t pull your hair out.
  • A purge valve at the bottom of the mask drains water out when the head is raised.
  • The silicone face skirt creates a watertight seal to prevent leakage.
  • Available in a range of sizes, including a kid-friendly Easybreath Junior for 6 to 10-year-olds.
  • An optional camera mount allows you to capture underwater photos and videos with the camera of your choice.

One of the most advantageous features of the Tribord Easybreath is its anti-fogging abilities, which is achieved thanks to a double chamber airflow system. This means that fogging takes place in the lower part of the mask, which is separated from the viewing area of the mask, so it won’t obscure your vision.

Another useful feature is the classic plastic straps on normal snorkeling masks are prone to catching in long hair therefore regular snorkelers will immediately appreciate the elasticated textile strap of the Tribord Easybreath. It can be adjusted so that the snorkeling mask secures snuggly around your face, with a silicone face skirt that’s designed to create a watertight seal. As the Tribord mask secures around your entire face, you can breathe through your mouth or nose, just as you would on land. In addition to this, the absence of a mouthpiece on Tribord masks means you won’t get jaw fatigue (which can be an issue with traditional snorkel and mask sets).

Furthermore, the 180-degree field of vision of Tribord snorkel masks is far superior to traditional snorkeling masks. It allows you to experience and see more of what’s happening in your peripheral vision. Since the first Tribord Easybreath prototype was released, the curved glass has been replaced with flat glass which has improved the visual disturbances that were reported in the initial design through Tribord Easybreath snorkeling mask reviews.

The Easybreath full face snorkel mask features an innovative float system that’s designed to prevent water from entering the snorkel if you encounter choppy water or the snorkel dips below the water’s surface. Should the snorkel be exposed to potential water entry a ball float rises to prevent water from entering the snorkel and if water does enter the mask, it immediately drains through a valve situated in the chin area once you come back above the water’s surface. You’ll also notice that the submerged part of the snorkel is colored bright orange to ensure you’re easily visible to other water users, including – and especially – boat drivers.

In 2017, the SUBEA design team developed a camera mount to fit onto their cool snorkel mask. This enabled users to capture all their underwater action through still images and video. The camera mount is a separate accessory that easily fits on the Easybreath and is compatible with all types of waterproof cameras, including GoPros. This is one feature that differentiates the Tribord Easybreath from other brands of full-face snorkeling masks, as some have built-in camera mounts that can only be used with GoPros.

FINAL THOUGHTS

When compared to other full face snorkel masks on the market, the Tribord Easybreath has been a user favorite thanks to its innovative design, anti-fogging capabilities, and the range of sizes it offers. The 180-degree design offers snorkelers a wider field of view than traditional snorkeling masks and this enhances the experience. The view combined with the ability to enable snorkelers to breathe more comfortably makes the Tribord Easybreath a formidable competitor.

Despite being the first full-face snorkeling mask on the market and undergoing numerous changes, Tribord Easybreath reviews still favor its user-friendly design. The optional camera mount makes it the preferred choice for many snorkelers who aren’t using a GoPro and want the flexibility to remove the mount when not in use. In addition, the wide choice of Tribord Easybreath sizing means these snorkeling masks meet the needs of individuals and families alike. This is especially true for those wanting to experience the joys of the underwater world with their children.

Overall, an impressive, well designed and easy to use full-face snorkeling mask.

FAQs

Can you breathe underwater with a full face snorkel mask?

No, a full face snorkel mask does not enable you to breathe underwater, but it does enable you to breathe while snorkeling at the water’s surface. Once you dip below the water’s surface, the valve on the snorkel will be closed by a float to prevent water from flooding in. However, this will also mean that you can no longer breathe through it either. If water does get into the mask, it will drain out through a valve in the chin area once you resurface.

Are full face snorkel masks better?

Full face masks come with a whole range of benefits compared to traditional masks and snorkels and are generally easier to use for beginners or those who aren’t particularly comfortable in the water. As there is no snorkel piece in your mouth, it’s easier to breathe (just as you normally would on land) and you won’t experience jaw fatigue after clamping down on a mouthpiece for long periods.
This particular model also features an innovative float system that prevents water from being able to enter the snorkel if you encounter choppy water or submerge slightly. But one of the main advantages of full-face snorkel masks over traditional masks is that there’s little to no fogging, so you don’t have to constantly clear your mask. The field of view while wearing the full-face snorkeling mask is usually approximately 180 degrees, which is far wider than that of a traditional snorkeling mask.

Snorkeling with a beard – what is the best full face snorkel mask for beards?
Snorkeling with any kind of mask can be difficult when a user has a beard and there’s no exception when it comes to full-face snorkeling masks. They require you to achieve a watertight seal between your face and the mask for them to work properly (and avoid any water seeping in), which can be difficult if you have a beard. Often the hairs from your beard will creep between the silicon lining and prevent you from managing to fix the seal.
But this doesn’t apply to every beard. The shape and size of your beard will impact whether you can use a full face mask successfully and which one is right for you. Consider where the mask is designed to seal around your face and whether this corresponds with your beard length. If you’re not sure, check out some of the Tribord Easybreath snorkeling mask reviews online to see what experience other bearded men have had. Another alternative is to apply a layer of Vaseline along the area where your beard meets the mask to help it seal properly.

There’s usually a good selection of Tribord USA sizes available, including Easybreath Juniors and Easybreath original models in XL, and you can find the latest versions as soon as they are released.

Where to buy Tribord Easybreath outside the USA

If you’re looking to purchase a Tribord Easybreath outside of the United States, you may also be able to find them online at Amazon or through underwater gear suppliers in your home country. Decathlon stocks the Tribord Easybreath in the United Kingdom and Australia, and ships to destinations throughout Europe.

Tribord Easybreath vs Seaview 180 Degree – which is the best-rated full face snorkel mask?

The Tribord Easybreath and Seaview 180 Degree both offer similar features and are two of the most popular full-face snorkeling masks on the market. Both are comfortable to wear and designed with a single, flat pane of glass that offers 180-degree visibility. Although both are made from high-quality materials, the latest Seaview 180 Degree V2 sees a slightly altered design with the breathing tube positioned to the side of the mask. This may appeal to some users who prefer the traditional mask and snorkel configuration, albeit with the benefits of a full face mask.
Aside from this, the main difference between the two snorkeling masks is the addition of a GoPro mount on the Seaview 180 Degree while the Tribord Easybreath has an optional camera mount that is compatible with various models of waterproof cameras. So, if you are consistently using a GoPro, then the Seaview 180 Degree might make sense. On the other hand, the third-party mount of the Tribord Easybreath gives you greater freedom in terms of which underwater camera you choose to use. In addition, you don’t have to use the mount if you don’t own a camera or aren’t interested in capturing your underwater adventures. It also means that if GoPro decides to change its mount in the future, you won’t have to invest in a new snorkeling mask and can continue to use the existing one.
As well as having more options for underwater cameras, the Tribord Easybreath is also available in more sizes than the Seaview 180 Degree. This makes it a more convenient choice if you have quite a large head or are looking for a full face snorkeling mask for your kids. Finding a snorkeling mask that fits properly is important to ensure you can create a seal around your face and prevent any water from leaking in.
Additionally, Tribord Easybreath snorkeling mask reviews tend to rate it higher for its anti-fogging abilities so if you are a heavy breather, then the Easybreath might be a better choice. It is almost impossible to fog it up and you won’t get frustrated having to consistently take it off to clear the mask.
Lastly, another advantage many users enjoyed according to the mask reviews is that the snorkel tip is colored a bright orange to signal other water users of your presence. This makes you easily visible to boat drivers, as well as to family and friends if you’re snorkeling in crowded conditions where all snorkels can look the same.

How do you put on an Easybreath mask?

The Tribord Easybreath is easy to use, adjustable, and has an elasticated strap that won’t get caught in your hair. Simply push the straps to either side and place the mask onto your face, positioning your chin first. Then pull the elastic straps over the back of your head and pull them to tighten. If the mask doesn’t feel comfortable, you may need to wiggle it around slightly until it’s in the correct position, but avoid pulling the mask down over your face when you put it on, as this will probably pull your hair with it. Aside from obstructing your vision, this will also make it hard to create a watertight seal around the edge of the mask, which is essential if you don’t want water leaking in.

How should you care for your Tribord Easybreath?

It’s important to be aware that sand and rough surfaces can scratch the glass of your Easybreath snorkel mask, so always lie it down with the visor-side up and avoid snorkeling too close to sharp rocks or hard corals. Always rinse your mask with fresh water after use to eliminate any sand or debris from the snorkel area and never put it in the dishwasher, as this can damage the mask. Store your mask in the mesh bag that is supplied when you purchase it – this ensures that it stays well ventilated. Lastly, place it somewhere away from direct sunlight.
